What is Baltic amber?
Amber works on two levels, firstly amber is a resin, which contains succinic acid, the warmth of the skin on the amber encourages the release of this natural analgesic. This helps to calm the child thus reducing the horrid symptoms of teething. Secondly Amber is electrostatically charged so assists in removing negative energy from the body. Amber has also been know to help with symptoms of asthma and other illnesses.
How can I get the most therapeutic value out of amber jewellery?
To get the most therapeutic value from the amber, the baby should wear it as much as possible during the day. It is not recommended that the baby wear it to bed, or while unsupervised. However, if you want to maximize the benefit of the amber, you could wrap the necklace around the baby’s ankle inside his/her sleeper while they are sleeping.
Can my baby wear the teething necklace while sleeping?
You should remove the necklace whenever the child is unsupervised, including naps or bedtime. For maximum benefit from the amber, the necklace could be worn doubled around the ankle and worn inside a sleeper only. Do not allow the amber to be accessible to the child.
Is that the lighter amber collars are more powerful than darker colours?
Yes our own experience and that of our customers seems to support this. Additionally the semi-polished colors seem to be stronger than their full-polish counterparts. While the following scale is entirely made up, it gives you some idea of the range we’re talking about. Note that all Baltic amber colors work well for things like teething pain, just that some are that much more powerful and if you are dealing with chronic levels of pain, you’re going to want to get one of the stronger colors. Necklace or Bracelet?
A necklace is the most effective for a teething baby as generally, wearing the amber closest to the site of the pain or inflammation provides the greatest pain relief. However, the bracelets can be an excellent choice to be worn on the ankle inside a sleeper.
What to expect when baby is teething?
Teething can cause mild pain, drooling, dry and irritated skin, diarrhea, fever and mouthing behaviors. Some infants will also have fussiness and sleep disturbance. In many babies, these symptoms are transient and really don’t require special treatment. In others, though, they can be troublesome for both infants and parents.
Why does teething hurt?
Your baby's teeth started developing in the uterus, when teeth buds were formed in her gums. As her teeth develop, they push through her gums, a process which can cause irritation, pain and swelling. While pressure seems to relieve the pain, sucking causes more blood to rush to the swollen areas, making them particularly sensitive. This is why some babies may temporarily reject the link breast or bottle when they are teething.
How long will teething last?
There's no set date when your baby's first tooth will arrive. Most babies start at around six months, but it can happen at any time, from before birth to after her first birthday. Teething could carry on for a year or more. Your little one should have all her milk teeth by the time she's two-and-a-half years old.
Why not to use painkillers?
As parents ourselves, we understand how you feel. Nothing is worse than watching your baby suffer. Painkillers are out of question as research indicating that chemical pain relievers can be dangerous to the health and in rare cases even life-threatening for your child. In fact, using painkillers for children under 2 years of age can lead to a rare but serious condition called methemoglobinemia, a blood disorder in which the hemoglobin cannot effectively release oxygen in the body. If you do choose to give acetaminophen or ibuprofen, check your dosing very carefully and avoid other products, such as cough and cold medicines, that may also contain acetaminophen.
The gels and fever reducers last only a short time and have to be re-administered. Others methods as icecubes, crushed ice, cloves in oil, teething rings, wet washcloth, teething cloth do not work for babies.
Unlike teething gels, powders and other medications, Baltic amber is a non-invasive and side-effect free remedy for the pain and discomfort your child can experience with teething.
What is the right length?
Our amber teething necklaces & anklets are generally one size: amber teething necklaces - 12.6-13 inches or 32-33 cm. / amber teething anklets/bracelets - 5.5-6.0 inches or 14-15 cm This is generally a good size for most young children, regardless of age. Before you purchase, we advise you to measure the wrist/ankle or neck and then check our product details.
Please note that all of our measurements are taken from the end of one clasp to the end of the other. It includes the full item with clasps.
Anklets: The easiest way to measure is with some string. It should fit so that you can slide your little finger under it, but not so it slides off the foot. The string can then be measured next to a ruler to determine the size needed.
Bracelets: Please measure the same way as anklets or measure an existing bracelet you have.
Necklaces: Adults - Measure an existing necklace you own or again use string. Children - Necklaces must not be too long but also not too tight. The easiest way to measure is to take a piece of string, again and measure the desired length around their neck and then measure against a ruler.
For safety the necklace must not be too long so it could come off or get tangled. It is also advisable that they do not chew it.
My baby wants to chew on the necklace or anklet, is this OK?
It will not cause any harm to the child, however the necklace/anklet is made for wearing, not for chewing. The easiest solution is to tuck it under their clothing and the necklace will quickly assume body temperature and the child will ignore it. You should use other teething aids such as chewing rings to meet your baby's increased chewing needs.
Are there any safety features on amber jewellery?
Yes. Each bead is knotted individually on the string (Except stretch anklets). This ensures that in case the necklace breaks, they would only be able to free one bead. All the beads used in baby jewellery are smaller than a pea, so that they can be swallowed safely in the event that one should come free. The clasp at the back is free from all metals and allergens and is held together by knots ensuring if there was pressure placed on the necklace, the clasp would pop open.
Should you see an effect immediately?
It’s important to note that healing is not immediate with amber as with most remedies spanning from pharmaceutical meds to more natural healing modalities, often it takes a little time to show results. It is more common that you will see subtle and gradual effects over time. It is also key to know, wearing your jewelry 24/7 will maximize your results. Our most common feedback from our customers is that they did not notice how well it is working until several weeks after wear when they removed their jewelry for a day and noticed a significant backslide; it was then that they realized their jewelry had been working after all! We hope this information is useful to everyone who does not see a result in the first week of wearing their jewelry :)
How to care for amber?
Don't expose the amber to lotions, polishes and other residues that might coat the surface of the stones creating a barrier from the healing oil. Amber can be worn in the bath but not in the pool or hot tubs where chemicals are present and may harm the stones. If the necklace needs to be washed, only use warm water.
What will happen if it gets pulled?
All our products designed to be safe and they are threaded on cotton. If they are pulled hard or caught in something, they will break. If they do break, only one bead will come loose because they are knotted between each bead.
Will this necklace solve my baby teething problems on its own?
